Halloween is my favorite time of the year, even if I’m in Germany and it isn’t a ‘cult’ here. Still, I prefer it over Christmas any day. And with Halloween come Halloween sales all over the relevant game networks and I looked through them for you. Here are my gems from Steam, Humble Bundle and GOG.
A few exceptions aside, I’m not one who hypes new AAA titles. Prey is one of those exceptions and it’s hands-down one of the best games this year. I might be biased though, because it’s one of the two I’ve actually played. But jokes aside, it’s awesome. Mix of stealth and fps on a artdeco-style spacestation. Mimics gives you a few jump scares at first, but it’s not that spooky once you got used to it.
I said it before and I say it again. Get Even is, despite it flaws, one of the underappreciated gems this year with one of the best game OSTs I’ve heard in a while. It even comes with a gentle mode with fewer scares jumps and easier combat. #justsaying 😉

SOMA is a sci-fi horror game from Frictional Games, the creators of Amnesia: The Dark Descent. It is an unsettling story about identity, consciousness, and what it means to be human.
Overwhelmingly positive reviews. I haven’t played it myself yet (still on my wishlist) but I’ve heard only good things about it. Can’t wait to play it one day.
Limbo is already in my library and the only reason I haven’t played it yet are the monstrous spiders. #whistlesinnocently Maybe the Halloween weekend is the perfect time to scare myself to hell and back, hu?

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines
One of the most iconic RPGs of all time shouldn’t be missing in this collection, right? I know, it was also one of the most buggiest (is buggiest a word?) game of all times, but community patches improved it a lot.
Hell is an experiment you can’t survive in Outlast.
I already have the first Outlast in my library, but haven’t played it yet. Maybe another thing for the Halloween weekend.
Amnesia – The Dark Descent
If you want to buy a game you’re too afraid to play you should have a look at Amnesia – The Dark Descent. I really don’t know why I buy horror games I won’t play because the description alone scares the fuck out of me.
Cyberpunk horror game that’s on my “I need this so badly” list since the release in August. Player character voice by Rutger Hauer (yes, for real).
Oxenfree is a supernatural thriller about a group of friends who unwittingly open a ghostly rift.
Oxenfree is in my library for quite some time yet. Another pick for my Halloween weekend. 🙂
GOG (-75%) € 4.99
Beholder is not really a horror game. But it’s on sale and I thought I end the list with two more gentle games. In Beholder you’re playing a state-installed landlord who… well… has to spy on his residents and manage his family somehow. It’s very short game (about 2h IF you make it through), but worth it. How you handle it, is your prerogative, but you have to live with the consequences.

I hope these games don’t scare you too much and you come back on Sunday/Monday for the 2nd part of the TLJ Saga. Looking forward to seeing you.
